Guidelines for the Prevention of Novel Coronavirus Pneumonia

1. Minimize outdoor activities as much as possible:

(1) Avoid traveling to areas where the disease is currently prevalent.

(2) It is recommended to reduce visiting relatives and friends and attending dinner gatherings during the Spring Festival, and to stay home and rest as much as possible.

(3) Reduce activities in crowded public places, especially those with poor air circulation, such as public bathhouses, hot springs, cinemas, internet cafes, KTVs, shopping malls, train stations, airports, docks, and exhibition halls!

II. Personal Protection and Hand Hygiene

(1) Wear a mask when going out. When going out to public places, seeking medical care, or taking public transportation, wear a medical surgical mask or an N95 mask.

(2) Maintain hand hygiene at all times. Reduce contact with public objects and surfaces in public places. When returning from public places, after covering your mouth and nose when coughing, and before meals and after using the restroom, wash your hands thoroughly with soap and running water or use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer. If you’re unsure whether your hands are clean, avoid touching your mouth, nose, and eyes with your hands. When sneezing or coughing, cover your mouth and nose with your elbow or clothing.

III. Health Monitoring and Medical Care

(1) Actively monitor your own health and that of your family members, and proactively measure your temperature whenever you feel feverish. If you have young children at home, check their foreheads morning and evening; if they develop a fever, measure their temperature immediately.

(2) If you develop any suspicious symptoms, you should promptly put on a mask and seek medical attention at the nearest healthcare facility. If you experience any suspected symptoms of novel coronavirus infection—such as fever, cough, sore throat, chest tightness, shortness of breath, mild loss of appetite, fatigue, slight mental dullness, nausea and vomiting, diarrhea, headache, palpitations, conjunctivitis, or mild muscle aches in the limbs or lower back—you should promptly visit a medical institution based on the severity of your condition. While doing so, try to avoid using public transportation such as subways and buses, and refrain from going to crowded places. When seeking medical care, proactively inform your doctor about your travel and residence history in areas where the disease is prevalent, as well as about anyone you have been in contact with since the onset of symptoms, and cooperate fully with the doctor’s investigation.

4. Maintain good hygiene and healthy habits.

(1) Open windows frequently in living spaces and ensure regular ventilation.

(2) Family members should not share towels, keep the home and tableware clean, and frequently air out clothes and bedding.

(3) Do not spit on the ground. Wrap nasal and oral secretions in tissues and dispose of them in covered trash bins.

(4) Pay attention to nutrition and engage in moderate exercise.

(5) Do not come into contact with, purchase, or consume wild animals (i.e., game meat); and as much as possible, avoid visiting markets that sell live animals (such as poultry, seafood, and wild animals).

(6) Families should stock up on items such as thermometers, medical surgical masks or N95 masks, and household disinfectants.
